Last weekend we spent a day at the bird park Avifauna in Alphen aan de Rijn, The Netherlands. It was quite cold, so many birds could not be seen because they were inside. We did encounter a bunch of shivering pelicans, storks and herons. The ring-tailed lemurs had also gone outside, but were huddled close to each other under a bush to stay warm. Only the penguins had no problem with the temperature and to our surprise a rose bush still bloomed as if it was high summer.
